Walking With Giants Foundation

An inspirational Maghull charity’s come up with a new idea to raise money during a year of lockdowns – and collected over £10,000 to boot!

Sue Connerty, the mum of Alex who has a very rare form of Dwarfism called Microcephalic Primordial Dwarfism, set up the ‘Walking With Giants Foundation‘ to support families whose child was affected with similar conditions:

Since the first lockdown, it’s found it difficult to collect funds holding a Bonus Ball (National Lottery) instead.

Sue said:

“It’s become so popular we’ve been able to run it weekly. As the months went by, we were getting more interest and we now run two sheets each Saturday.

“We also held Easter Bonus Balls, and other general gift bonus balls. I want to give a huge thank you back to our community in Maghull for the support we have had. Many of our players are from our area and take part each week.

“Through these extremely hard times, the local community has stood behind us. This needs to be shouted about; instead of hearing negativity, something positive has come out of the lockdown.

“We have paid out more than £6,000 in prize money which is £150 a week, not a bad return on paying £5 to take part!

“We have had some local businesses support us with prizes, with some of the funds put aside for our annual convention taking place next July.

“We had to cancel last years and this year’s but have still been able to fund several families through grants for tablets to help with home schooling, white goods, and a specialist Lycra suit for a child unable to walk.

“We have also helped with urgent Covid grants for families in need of food, and utilities.”
