A construction worker was found dead in a bath while staying at a friend’s house.
Emil Jaszczuk died aged 31 as a result of taking amphetamines, an inquest heard.
The inquest took place at Bootle Town Hall today, almost three years after his death at a home on Park Lane, Maghull.
The hearing heard that the Polish national had been living in Merseyside for less than a year and had no home of his own.
A statement read on behalf of coroner’s assistant Albert Howard-Murphy stated that he had been staying with friends but mostly lived on the construction site where he was working.
On August 8, 2018, Mr Jaszczuk’s friend, Mr Calisz, invited him to stay over while his own family had gone on holiday as he knew he had nowhere else to go.
They spent a few hours watching TV and the homeowner went to bed at around 10pm, leaving his guest cooking in the kitchen.
But when he came downstairs a few hours later, he could not see Mr Jaszczuk sleeping on the couch as agreed, but instead found him sitting in the bath with the tap still running.
He attempted to shout him but got no response and grabbed his arm which felt stiff.
Mr Howard-Murphy’s statement explained that there were no apparent injuries but vomit was found on a sponge near Mr Jaszczuk.
His friend had not seen him drink or take drugs that night but a toxicology report found that his blood contained a fatal amount of amphetamines.
The report also found cocaine at a level consistent with non-recent use, indicating he would not have been feeling the effects of it at the time of his death.
Concluding, Julie Goulding, senior coroner for Sefton, Knowsley & St Helens, recorded the medical cause of death as acute amphetamine toxicity.
Ms Goulding said:
“Emil was spending the night staying at a friend’s house because he had nowhere else to live.
“The friend went to bed, leaving Emil downstairs making some dinner.
“When he came down to use the toilet he found Emil unresponsive in the bath.
“Emergency services attended and Emil was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Police were satisfied that no suspicious circumstances were involved.”
A conclusion of drug related death was recorded.
