325 new homes earmarked for land in Lydiate

A major housing developer wants to build 325 homes on fields along the edge of Lydiate, which will involve the demolition and relocation of Morton’s Dairies.

Bellway has submitted a planning application to Sefton Council to create the huge development on a patch of land to the north of Kenyons Lane, between Liverpool Road and the A59.

As part of the plan, Morton’s Dairies, on Kenyons Lane, will be torn down with the business relocating elsewhere.

Bellway state in their planning application: “The site is split into two distinct parts. The northern part comprises low level maintained grass. The southern part is occupied by Morton’s Dairies which remains an operational dairy although this will relocate as part of these proposals.

“Throughout the layout design process, a key focus has been to ensure delivery of a new neighbourhood that integrates into the wider settlement.

“The vision was designed around existing and potential new green infrastructure to encourage community activity. The connection to the wider area has been embraced, reinforcing the gateway into the development.

“The development has been driven by the need to propose an appropriate scheme which logically integrates into the community of Lydiate. The layout has been formed to create a highquality residential development within the context of Lydiate.”

Sefton Council has not yet made a decision on the plans.
